NABTEB To Start CBE (Computer-Based Examinations) From 2026
NABTEB to Begin Computer-Based Exams by 2026
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced plans to start computer-based examinations for all students beginning in 2026. This important change was announced by Dr. Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed, the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, when he started his job at the headquarters in Benin City.
Dr. Mohammed is now the 5th Registrar of NABTEB. During his first day, he was welcomed by Mr. Olugbenga Ojogbede, the Director of Special Duties, and other staff members. Mr. Ojogbede expressed confidence in Dr. Mohammed’s ability to improve NABTEB because of his experience and knowledge about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Dr. Mohammed explained that NABTEB will soon make all its processes digital. This includes online registration for exams, computer-based testing instead of paper exams, digital processing of results, and electronic certificate issuance. These changes will help reduce mistakes, make exam processes faster, and improve NABTEB’s efficiency.
The new Registrar promised to make NABTEB exams more secure by using biometric verification (fingerprint scanning) to confirm student identity, encrypted question papers that cannot be easily accessed without permission, and systems that monitor exams as they happen to prevent cheating.
Dr. Mohammed also promised to improve conditions for NABTEB staff by creating a better work environment, providing training opportunities, ensuring hardworking staff get promotions when due, and looking for grants and funding for technical education programs.
The Registrar stated that NABTEB’s new direction will support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which sees technical education as important for Nigeria’s development and economic growth. These changes aim to make NABTEB exams more trusted, honest, and efficient, creating a better future for technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
